Look into my eyes: Pupillometry reveals that a post?hypnotic suggestion for word blindness reduces Stroop interference by marshalling greater effortful control

چکیده

The mechanisms underpinning the apparently remarkable levels of cognitive and behavioural control following hypnosis hypnotic suggestion are poorly understood. Numerous independent studies have reported that Stroop interference can be reduced a post-hypnotic asks participants to perceive words as if made up characters from foreign language. This effect indicates frontal executive functions more potent than is generally accepted has been described resulting top-down not normally voluntarily available. We employed eye tracking pupillometry investigate whether results voluntary visuo-attentional strategies (subtly looking away word prevent optimal processing), response conflict but overall conflict, effects being pushed selection execution (response durations) or increased proactive effortful given enhanced contextual motivation (as indexed via pupil dilation). replicated reduction in despite removing any trials on which movements were consistent with processing. Our data inconclusive regards type affected by latency data, although preserved semantic was evident data. There also no evidence durations. However, we show baseline-corrected sizes larger indicating socio-cognitive context experimental demands motivate marshal greater control.

Temporal constraints of the word blindness posthypnotic suggestion on Stroop task performance.

The present work investigated possible temporal constraints on the posthypnotic word blindness suggestion effect. In a completely within-subjects and counterbalanced design 19 highly suggestible individuals performed the Stroop task both with and without a posthypnotic suggestion that they would be unable to read the word dimension of the Stroop stimulus, both when response-stimulus interval (R...

Posthypnotic suggestion and the modulation of Stroop interference under cycloplegia.

Recent data indicate that under a specific posthypnotic suggestion to circumvent reading, highly suggestible subjects successfully eliminated the Stroop interference effect. The present study examined whether an optical explanation (e.g., visual blurring or looking away) could account for this finding. Using cyclopentolate hydrochloride eye drops to pharmacologically prevent visual accommodatio...

Oxytocin and post-hypnotic suggestion 1 Oxytocin impedes the effect of the word blindness posthypnotic suggestion on Stroop task performance

The ability to enhance sensitivity to relevant (post)hypnotic suggestions has implications for creating clinically informed analogues of psychological and neuropsychological conditions and for the use of hypnotic interventions in psychological and medical conditions. The aim of the present study was to test the effect of oxytocin inhalation on a post-hypnotic suggestion that previously has been...
